This is not a fabric-based quilt! These are acrylic painted canvases that have been cut and assembled like a quilt.
My quilted acrylic artwork features the universal symbol for Welcome: the pineapple.
Pineapples are an important part of the Charleston, South Carolina landscape and culture and my work with pineapples has been inspired by over 15 years of trips to Charleston area.
The pineapple is painted with a blend of yellows and peaches, then quilted using a grid pattern. It rests upon an orange background and is surrounded by red imprints and fused with red fabric. The green top is outlined in quilting.
It is surrounded by a double border. The inner border is yellow with green and orange strokes and orange fused fabric. The outer border is in orange with yellow and red imprints and is fused with yellow fabric.
The piece was assembled and quilted using black thread. The quilting extends around each of the painted lines, objects and fabric. The quilting adds a nice puffy, unique texture to the overall artwork.
The edge is finished using a variegated orange and yellow thread.
It is mounted on a custom frame that was built specifically for this piece. It can be hung with the saw tooth hanged on the reverse side.
